Looking for a used 40-60 boom type or articulated 4x4 man lift.I see United Rentals has a bunch, this vs Craig list, if feelI would be getting a better unit? Thought? Suggestions. Usage will be for home up keep, painting, siding, etc. how well do they work on a grade, or slope?

Looking at theses 2 , but just started looking, don't want something too old or anything unsafe, as I'll be the one in it

Either one of those units would be great. My question is, and I often ask myself the same, how often do you need the machine? A $17K investment to clean the gutters once a year? I finally convinced myself to rent something when I needed instead of having it sit around 95% of the time. It can be cheaper in the long run. You might be able to buy something, do your construction and then sell it on. Good luck.

It won't be sitting around 95% of the time. His friends will make sure of that. At least until it breaks.

"how well do they work on a grade, or slope?"

Pretty much NOT - these days ALL of them have sensors that won't let you raise the boom unless it's pretty level.

One POSSIBLE work-around, if you're well-equipped and handy enough - add some REALLY sturdy hydraulic levelers (maybe google pics of over-the-road CRANES to get an idea) - this would let you level the machine in place. Not an easy project tho, and by "sturdy" I mean that size machine may weigh in the range of 20-25 thousand pounds. Just the ROD on a cylinder for that type equipment is gonna be 3-4" diameter or larger, and you would probably need a bigger/separate pump for that kind of project.

Mine is a 50' Condor, no longer made, weighs just over 19,000, is old enough NOT to have quite as many sensors on it but it SHOULD have. If you haven't already had the boom on one that size at full extension and then moved it around, you haven't found out how hard it is to pull yer panties back out of where they shouldn't have gone... A auction of a rental company that a secured party is having. Equipment is still good but the bank wants their money. Estate sale where the guy has died and the widow wants her money. Good Luck!

Thinking I am just going to go with renting, instead of purchasing, or at least rent a 40 footer to see if it will reach everything, then if I still need to purchase one I know what size to get. Thanks for the replies
