Kubota BX24
Well first weekend with the BX24 and I got it stuck 3 times the last time I just couldn't get it out by itself. So I had to bring the pickup over to give it a little yank backwards....with the BH on I wasn't sure where a good place to hook the chain to. I ended up using the loop the the bumpstop is mounted to that limits the booms left to right travel. I tried to pull it out as gently as possibly but since the back half of the truck was on ice I did have to give it a bit of tug. The BX seems no worse for wear. So where is a good place to hook a chain if needed...I am sure I will be stuck again...and I don't want to damage the tractor. I have lots of expierence with vehicle recovery (actually teach a class on it) but have very little expierence with tractors.
Thanks

Hi Neighbor,

Even with the backhoe mounted, the hitch plate may be accessable. A chain through a clevis installed in the hitch plate would be best. I know the backhoe lower mounts are above the hitch plate, but can't remember if the bottom of the BH is below it, or not. If you haven't had the BH off, look straight down the back of the tractor in line with the center of the seat. You will see an oval projection, below the centerline of the axles that has a hole in it for attaching trailers, or hitch mounted implements. I suppose that you could also extend the hoe, attach a chain to the bucket, and then use the hydraulics on the hoe to pull yourself backwards. The relief valve would kick in before you could damage the hoe that way.

Thanks for the tip. I tried using the BH to pull me out backwards but it just wasn't working probably more from my inexperience than anything else.I even tried using the FEL but it just kept digging up more snow. The last few times it got stuck I used either the FEL or the stabilizers to life the wheels up then filled in the ruts the wheels where stuck in and backed out. This last time the tractor was up against the snow bank and I couldnt get to the wheels on the side...anyway I should get practice extracting the tractor as the way my yard and driveway are graded I think I will be stuck alot until spring melts the ice...

The backhoe takes weight off the front end, and makes both steering, and front traction less effective. Tire chains aren't too expensive for tires that size, and would save you a lot of frustration. You will need some weight on the back for using the loader, and wheel weights, loaded rear tires, or a weight box/weight on the 3pt hitch would work. After the first winter, I left my backhoe off for the winter season. I had loaded rear tires, and never had traction issues, or needed more weight back there for moving snow/ice.

Dealer loaded the tires as something they automatically do to the BX24s before they leave the shop...they also added hooks to the buckets and a block heater at no extra charge. I may get the chains...they stock them.

Sounds like you are having Tractor fun on your very first weekend. Don't be so sure about getting that thing stuck all the time either, you'll have all sorts of cute ways to use the tractor itself to get out of messes and you'll only get stuck when something completely unexpected crops up. The last time I was stuck was pushing snow with the blade backwards, the blade hit a bank and jumped the front of the tractor sideways (I don't hit banks that hard anymore) and there I was. I probably could have played the tractor out of there, but was concerned with the proximity to trees, so I winched the front sideways until I could just push the right foot forward and out it came. You'll find no end to the places you can hook on to and your guide should be something along the line of, "if I hook on there, I'll rip the bumper off the truck before I hurt the tractor," you're probably going to be o.k.

Congratulations on the new rig and keep having fun. Dyer, retired
