Best Mud & Snow tire for my Pickup Snow Plow

In snow country, most people put on a snow tires for that season. Any snow tire is better than those mud/snow things. This photo was taken today, in Calumet MI.

With your minimal but occasional snow needs, I’d buy mud tires and use chains.

M+S is not a performance rating: if the tire has 25% open tread they can be called M+S. For real snow performance you need tires with the “Mountain Snowflake” icon (three peaks) which is a performance rating by NIST and the Canadians.

I watched a big lifted pickup truck with monster mudders drive down a snowy street, turn a corner - and sideswipe three cars before coming to rest on the fourth. As others have mentioned, the tread block design and rubber compounds of mud tires are not well suited for snow.

...or if you want a little better in mud while sacrificing a little on the snow/highway driving, look at the MXT's Courser MXT

Please report back here with some kind of review. Its hard to find reliable info when trying to compare tires.

You are going to have to up your rates to have any kind of a premium tire for plowing snow. Am I wrong in thinking that any tire that gets good traction, doesn't last as long. I have ran OEM Wranglers on several trucks. Long wearing, hard as nails and they get all the traction of leather soled dancing shoes on glare ice.

Those look pretty good (I like the MXT better).

Yes, Mud will be constant, snow will be occasional (but it stops everything else - I can't get up my driveway to go to work for example). Amazon has them at a good price it seems.

Seems like I was a bit late as you already ordered.

I used to price shop online....not really to see what things would "cost" me, but rather compare the cost difference of the tires.

But I always get tires through my local tire shop. He is actually a mastercraft dealer. Has deliveries daily. And the cost of tires I always see online at the various tire places.....are always MORE than he charges me to INSTALL them.

So I was going to suggest you call your local shops and find out who is a mastercraft dealer.

Alot of shops dont like you bringing in your new tires you got "online". They usually charge a bit more for mount/balance because they are getting their little bit of mark-up for selling you the tires, as you are giving that profit to some online company. Plus, if you have warranty issues, like for treadwear....or a bulge in the sidewall....alot more difficult to deal with.

Ambulances where I live run Blizzaks all year round. I assume they've tried others.

Here in central ohio isnt exactly what you would call "snow country" but we usually get our fair share.

I have ran snow tires, and know people that do. But "here", the hassle isnt worth it IMO.

A good tread design in an all season tire is all I need. Gotta have sipes and not blocky tread. Thats why I like the mastercraft HXT's. Courser HXT

They are real similar to michelin LTX's https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tire...!3!72322431853!!!g!833454816222!&gclsrc=aw.ds which I also like for snow but quite a bit more $$$ than the mastercrafts

For all my non-truck tires I like mastercraft SRT tourings. SRT Touring

Have them on the wifes buick encore, on the nissan sentra, and on the saturn work car. Same local dealer sells alot of kenda tires....but on my cars the mastercrafts are only ~$10 a tire more than the cheap kendas. And on the nissan...35k and the kendas were toast. Current SRT tourings I put on after that have 40k on them and am guessing they will easily go another 25-30k. Same on the saturn. Granted....lighter car....but at 30k miles on the tires they still look freaking new.

And the SRT touring tires are as good as it gets IMO in the winter without going to an actual winter snow tire

We get about 8-10 years out of our snow tires but we do not run them over the summer. After that amount of time, the rubber has become so stiff, they were no longer snow tires and we toss them. I once asked my tire shop "what percent of your customers run snows?" and his response was "about 70% of them". This really is snow county, really.... Years ago when I had first put 4 of them on my minivan, I later needed to drive my spouses auto which did not have them. The 1st corner I came to I promptly slid into the bank which made me exclaimed "we must get you snow tires!" Been using them ever since.

I don't like it, but I run studded snows all winter on my wifes car and my pickup.
Nokian Hakkapeliitta 8s on her's and Hakkapelitta LT's on mine,
expensive but well worth it when needed.
I buy a second set of rims and TPMS sensors right after we get a vehicle,
then I can swap them when I want to not when a shop can get it done.
