I just bought a new to me 2010 F350 with an 8' Meyers Plow and it needs tires, soon.

Primary use is to plow snow, haul stuff for ranch, etc. MINIMAL road driving planned and not commuting etc. unless dire conditions.

The crappy BF Goodrich All Terrain TA on it immediately clogged with mud and were worthless. Plus they are near end of life.

Truck is STOCK height and wheels and I want to stay that way.

I'd like the longest life possible and GOOD TRACTION in snow & mud.

Make sense?

Any and all good advise appreciated.

Please no brand bashing etc.

Be well all.
David

Using BFG tires as an example, the all terrain will be better on the road and on ice and the mud-terrain will be better off road in mud. Tires with big blocky tread is not good on ice. For mud, a tire that has a good self cleaning tread is good. Not surprising that worn out BFG all terrains didn't handle mud.

Mud tires may have side effects like wet-road traction, they wear out quickly, and highway noise.

Mud tires make poor snow tires, so you have to make a decision here: mud with big, blocky tread, or snow, , narro, with lots of closely spaced self cleaning tread with siping.

one of the better tires that can handle both is the Michelin a/t 2. The best thing would be a snow tire in the winter and an a/t in the summer. I run blizzak dmv-1s in the winter, and I have a set of Michelin LTX for summer. I did really like my set of cooper a/t 3 that I had on the last truck. i think they would also be very good in the snow.

pretty much any of the mud terrains are going to be terrible in snow and ice.

This. This one right here. I agree.

I have BFG A/T KO 2's on my truck. I've run many sets of them over the years. I can tell you without any hesitation that they are NOT mud tires. They do "ok" until the mud gets thick and sticky, then they are done. But I don't run them for mud tires.

OK, I hear you all about the Mud & Snow is more euphemism vs. utility.

Here is the problem. I live in Virginia, I occasionally get good heavy wet snow & lots of it, but the vast majority of the time (like this year, no snow except a trace in the grass) I get not really much.

I'm not snow plowing professionally, I have 1/2 mile of gravel driveway before I hit the pavement and State maintenance roads, and the hill in front of my house is brutal in the snow.

I've got Mud year round.

Finally, the BFG AT on the truck now, in 2wd without the plow attached at all, and an empty bed, spin out miserably on damp grass/dirt. Unacceptable performance.

The tires on the truck are dry and cracking sidewalls and not much tread and should be replaced.

Trying to buy the BEST FIT for my use.

Thanks again.
Be well all,
David

Nothing more useless than a 3/4 or one ton Diesel with crappy tires. I got sold Goodyear Wrangler M&S but they are lousy. Hardly better than my similar summer tires. A little now, that my summer tires are almost bald. I will probably just leave them on come spring and buy some better winter tires next fall.

^^yep. Those HD trucks have stiff suspension with big anti-sway bars that make them great for towing but horrible for suspension articulation.

I've had decent service from several tires;
Coopers Discoverer AT3 LT,
My current summer tires are Hankook Dynapro AT M,

But I haven't seen many empty trucks with a snow plow hanging off the nose that didn't spin easily in 2 wd.
