Ferg. To 20, 1956 Massey F. MF 25 diesel, Ferg. 40, 1944 John D. A, 1965 cockshutt 40,
Thinking of buying a Kubota 40 horse power 4wd with a fel for snow removal, mowing my lawn, moving firewood, repairing/grading my driveway etc. I have operated kubotas. Two of them total. Both 50 horse power 4wd with fel. One had a standard gear box and one had hydrostatic. I do have to say I'm absolutely fine with hydrostatic as long as there are different ranges/gearing as well. I have operated backhoes and pay loaders and don't mind them at all as long as there are ranges between different gearing.

Is the Kubota one of the best cold starting tractors available? I would plug mine in no doubt but its something I would like to know as well.

What is one way you could get me interested in a Kubota as opposed to older brands. I have ran newer deeres, newer internationals, etc just want to know what stands out about a kubota.

I'm also a full time truck mechanic and want to know what's easy to repair on a Kubota tractor.

One of the nice things about a Kubota is that ten years from now it will still be a Kubota! It won't be a green Yanmar or a hinomoto that you have to find parts for.

I love Kubotas and have used and owned various brands over the years. I have found they are extraordinarily reliable and require few repairs and most of the ones I have made over 20 years of Kubota ownership were self inflicted! I have had several older Ford tractors through the years and really had very few problems with them either. The only drawback to the Kubotas is their light weight, but their functionality and dependability far outweigh that. If you are going to be doing a lot of loader chores consider the hydrostatic drive. It does ad cost and noise, but for anything other than ground engagement is absolutely fantastic and much faster than geared models. Dealer availability is another plus in this area for Kubotas as their dealer network is extensive and parts are readily available if needed. Good luck.

The following "best features" stand out to me:

Kubota dealers sell ONLY Kubota tractors. The mechanics know the equipment and parts are generally available at the dealer when you need them. Mechanics can call Kubota Central for advice on Kubota "best practice" or if they encounter a truly peculiar repair problem. Kubota conducts regular maintenance workshops for dealer mechanics.

Kubota manufactures or sources all their parts. None sub-jobbed from another tractor producer, which leads to parts delays and uncertainty.

Kubota has a particularly high reputation for their HST transmissions, on tractors and Kubota Utility Vehicles.

You pay more for a new Kubota, but you recoup the Kubota premium in higher resale.

Kubota has two assembly/manufacturing plants in Georgia and a diesel engine plant in Illinois.

If you want some kind of a semi-custom after-market gizmo, everyone makes gizmos that fit Kubotas.

I own what you are interested in. A L4240 HSTC Kubota. The best feature of the Grand L's is the HST+ transmission.I do 95% of my work in medium range and toggle between high/low.We are on our third Kubota and they have been very good starting as long as you keep the proper treated fuel in them.

On my second Kubota, both been real good over the years, and dealer been outstanding.

Dealer should be consider..how good is his word.
JD I feel has better/stronger hyd. system when it comes to front loader work.
I like how Kubota handles/levers steering wheel etc. comes to operator..less reaching.

I love my L3540...and the HST+ system that allows you to control how quickly it comes to a stop/ changes direction is great. When I was shopping for mine a couple of years ago, I also thought about using it for mowing and opted to spend the $ that would have went towards the mowing deck on a ZT. If I remember correctly, I think the mowing deck option is about $4K. So it can go a long ways for a ZT. The Ls or GLs are also just too big for mowing a lawn with a belly mower. My 3540 is weighing in at about 6K lbs with the loaded tires and FEL. (3400 Tractor + 1200 RimGaurd + 1200 FEL w/Bucket + Fluids) It can transverse the lawn without leaving much of a mark. My 1200 lb Zero Turn even sinks in in some spots during the spring requiring those areas to be avoided. I've also got the industrial tires on mine. If you get the Turfs, they won't tear the lawn up as much, but if you are doing heavy lifting the sidewalls aren't as strong. Whether this would really make a difference, probably not. I guess I would only be concerned if frequently lifting the max the the 724 loader can do often.

The tractor is great though, I would highly recommend getting the Quick Attach for the FEL so that you can also get a set of 48" forks. Probably the most useful attachment I have. Brush, Debris, Firewood, logs for my sawmill, and moving anything is really easy. I have the LA514, wouldn't have minded the larger 724 loader, but I can still tell my back end is light at times with a 700lb ballast box with what the 514 can lift.

Oh, and my second favorite thing is the Hi/lo range shifter on the tree. It doubles the 3 ranges you have so you don't have to stop. Gives a little more power pushing into something and then switch to Hi with a flick of the fingers and then transport quicker.

Really hard question, too general for me to answer. As a brand, I can't say Kubota is any "better" than any of the other top brands. I really do think the HST+ now offered on the Grand L offers more features than it competitors and I really love it.

The following is obviously a promotional production, but it does a decent job of describing the features of HST+. You will pay extra and for some it's not worth it, but for me it was: Kubota HST-Plus Transmission - YouTube

Kubota dealers sell ONLY Kubota tractors.

Not sure why it matters, but the dealer by me sells several brands. I'd almost prefer they carried all brands so I could compare everything in one stop.
