I don't know if it was a deal or not. But, my father in law gave my his daughter

Too funny!!! My FIL told me once that I had obviously not read the fine print on the back of the contract when I jokingly said that I wanted to trade back in his daughter. He said it stated that his daughter came "as is" and no trade-in or exchanges would be accepted! :p

I bought a used Sears washing machine and dryer for $20 each from a guy who was just trying to get rid of them. Wasn't long afterwards that the washer had problems and I called out the Sears repairman. Don't remember now exactly what it was that he fixed, but I asked him at the time how long he thought both machines would last? He said he'd give them one (1) year tops based on condition. Well....15 years later those two machines are still going strong.

Uh...of course now with my luck...I've probably jinxed them and they'll both go kaput by the end of the week!

One of our local Lowe's cleans up every spring. At least twice I got there sulk lumber $50 for 2 trailers full of 2x4s and 2x6s.
Once there was a Andersen double hang window as a return with price on it $75. I took it to the checkout and the guy rung it @ $10:)

Do Free items count as Deals???

I always try to help people out and often the problem is something I can easily take care of... and I will tell them not to worry about it...

People have given me tools, a couple of cars and even a nice Chevy Pick-up Truck.

All of the vehicles were cars that I had done minor work to in the past and never asked for any payment for my time...

About 15 years ago, a neighbor from my old neighborhood had called me because he needed a part for the 67 Cadillac Fleetwood that he had bought new and the part couldn't be located... at least that is what the Cadillac Dealer said. I called around and found a wrecking yard that had the power seat assembly, went and pulled it out and installed it. He was so grateful, he said that he would never forget it...

Last year, I got a call from his wife at work and she asked if I knew who she was and if I remembered fixing the seat many years ago... Anyway, she said her Husband had willed the car to me, if I wanted it... It was always garaged and looked and drove great... I even took it on a 900 mile trip last summer...

I guess it's really true... what goes around comes around...

Needed some new bath towels so it was off to Sears.
Picked out some fine towels to the tune of $152 dollars, said I'll pay by check. Went to write the check and I'm all out of checks. No problem put it on my charge card but I don't have the card with me. Teller finds my account, but credits my account the $152 dollars. She bags up my towels and I head home. Two weeks goes by and I receive a check from Sears for $152 dollars for the overpayment of my account.
12 new bath towels and a $152 dollars to boot, Great deal

A co-worker gave me a Sears radial arm saw, It was an older model and the table was chewed up. one day I found that sears had a recall on these saws because the blade guard did not work properly. It turns out that the new blade guard did not fit with the old table so along with the new guard they sent a new table.

Yet another...

1993, Christmas party for my work, got handed an arm's length of free raffle tickets when I came through the door (everyone did). There must have been 200 people there.

I won a brand new 36" "cable-ready" tv (haha), a $100.00 Home Depot gift card and 4 days-off-work authorization!

I got offered $200.00 on the spot for the tv by a co-worker at my table - SOLD.

I sold the $100.00 gift certificate to another co-worker that night for $50.00 cash - SOLD. (I didn't keep it because I lived in an apartment at the time).

I kept the 4 days off...started my "mini-vacation" the following Monday.

Same thing. Bought the saw in church auction with no blade cover at all for 50 bucks, looked dangerous like he!l. I checked on Sears - maybe even because of an advice here on TBN - and they sent me the table and updated blade guard for free. Looks like there were quite few accidents using that type of saw; anyway it is a corner stone of my woodworking now, couldn't do without anymore.

Back when I was young (B4 the Wife&Kids) and had more dollars than sense, I bought a Cessna 152 from the owner of a local flight school that was having money problems. For helping him out of a jam he gave me free flying lessons; free tie-down space at the airport; fuel discounts; repair service; etc... So I took the lessons; flew all over Arizona; had a blast....then a couple of years later sold the plane back to the school for more than I paid!

Shhhh, while on vacation in town far far away, I got $400 off a HD TV if I signed up for a satellite TV service. I got the $400 off and call them twice to come install the dish, They said something like "now where do you live?" (like 5 hours was too far away for their installers) They ended up never calling me back and not asking for the $400.

I've told this story before but my best deal was about 2 years after I rebuilt the engine on my neighbors MF85. I got my 8N stuck and asked him to borrow the tractor to pull the 8N out. He tossed my the key and told me to park it in my barn when I got done, He was not going to farm anymore and if he needed it for anything he'd know where it was.
