This didn't happen to me, but my father.

In 1994, a flood swept the southern states of FL, Ga and AL. It was a byproduct of hurricane Alberto. My father's home got washed out. While he was waiting for the water to recede, FEMA showed up and loaned him a brand new travel trailer (5th wheel).

Over a year later, he had long been back in his house and the travel trailer sat in his yard. He called FEMA and asked when they were coming to get it. They replied they had no record of him having one. They asked if he was sure that FEMA had been the one's who delivered it. Dad reluctantly replied "yes" and a few days later, FEMA came out and got it.

He could have kicked himself for calling...had a free travel trailer (nice too, I might add) that had no paper trail back to him.

We laugh about it when the subject comes up. He said he priced it at an RV center up in 'Bama once and it was one of those $16,000.00 rigs (1995 money). He swears that the man who took the call sent "his boys" out to get it and it's his own private hunting lodge now!

I bought a come-along at Menards years ago. There were several of them on the shelf for something like $34. I took the one on top and the cashier rang it up as $.28

$75 rotating pressure washer nozzles at Lowe's. They had them on the clearance rack for 1/2 price so I picked up all 3 of the ones they had. They would last about a year the way we used them and my AG supplier sold them for $110. They rang up at the register for $1. I told the girl that wasn't right and she informed me that it was:) and to have a nice day.:D

I had been looking for a rolling toolbox for my shop at home. I checked on Craigslist and here was a brand new looking Cornwell rolling toolbox which retails for $1200 and the guy was selling it for $200. I called him up and said I'll pick it up in the morning.

When I go to pick it up, the guy said he had gotten 43 calls in about 3 hours time about it but he was good enough to let me buy it for the $200. He said to me, "I guess I'm selling this pretty cheap, huh?" All I said was, "Thank you very much!"

I'm very happy with the toolbox. I usually never get good deals on anything. Every dog has his day and guess I had mine.

Just picked this up Monday from my neighbor, for free. Her son had left it there and she wanted it out, been doing favors for her for the 4 years since I've lived here, including plowing her driveway and long city sidewalk, never charged her for what I did, but I still feel like the plow is a gift, not an exchange for my help. Needs some wiring and cables.

About 10 years ago I went to a singles group at church.

As luck would have it, a met a woman and we hit it off pretty well.

As I got to know her better, it turned out that she was going through some hard times and had gotten into more than a little debt. After dating for about a year we decided that we were going to live together until she was free to marry again.

So, I paid off her credit cards to the tune of about $30k. I wrote up a note which we both signed, but we agreed there would be no payments for at least 5 years.

We were married 2 years later, and we burned the note.

She was a college professor and had a small part-time consulting business. Well, as her life improved, so did the consulting business. And, so did her salary. Today she brings in double or triple the amount of the note every year from her consulting, and her salary on top of that.

Not a bad deal at all.

Plus, our marriage has been wonderful.

Kindergarten through high school education, all free. Biggest gift of my life. Although I could have appreciated it a bit more at the time.

Last fall I bought a Ford 460 with a C6auto trans. for $600. They're both freshly overhauled with some performance parts. I'm working a deal for a '89 F150 that has a 4.9 with a cracked head.
I'll do an organ transplant so I should have a pretty fun ride for 1500 bux or so.
If I can find a 92-96 front cap cheap cheap I'll do a Lightning clone.

Cheap cheap is cheaper than cheap. :)
