New owner of a bright orange M5040HDC with loader! :D Have already made a couple neighbours jealous :p But it's been raining since I got it so all I've done is take it off the trailer and take it for a short spin :(.

Need a snowblower at least 84" wide. The dealer gave me a quote on an 87" Meteor, the brand that he carries. Freight free if he could get in on his order of other blowers he'll stock for the season, an offer from the manufacturer for ordering in June I think. I found a couple threads on Meteor and I have my doubts. So, I asked him to see if he can quote me on 84" Pronovost Puma and 84" Blizzard. He said they'll be quite a bit more. I'm waiting for him to get back to me. How about the plain Pronovost 86" P-860? Must be near impossible to break that ;). I think I saw something about them making a Lynx? Also have seen BerVac mentioned. If anyone could tell me where the best place to get Pronovost or similiar in Northern Maine...

Any thoughts/opinions/advice would be appreciated.

I picked up a 7' old, ugly, $500 but works good. Hyd motor for chute rotation. New Idea Canadian made.

Does not seem to weigh much but hangs far enough back it off loads front weight & reduced steering traction. I cleared snow for years with just a 8' front bucket.

Once I got the hang of the blower I drop the bucket off & just blow for better maneuverability & space in the shed.

Be sure your tractor has a rear wiper!

Speaking of Avco New Idea snowblowers, here's a 7 foot old-but-good one I bought for $300. It looked bad but it worked great. The next 2 pictures show it after sandblasting, paint, and a hydraulic drag blade was added for cleanup in front of garage doors, etc. (something like Pronovost's PXP but waay cheaper). If you're interested there's a project thread here .

My experience is that the older blowers tend to have very heavy duty gearboxes on them that last forever. The steel can be rusty but if everything still turns ok and there's oil in the gearbox, an older used unit can be a great find.

Try Wayne at attachments direct. The blowers are Erskine and I was not disappointed with a single aspect of my buy from them. es2400 high-flow. Good hunting.1-866-428-8224 Attachments Direct

IMO...The choice is simple....Blizzard B84...BTW, here in Maine, this is a PERFECT Time to get a good deal on a blower, most dealers are placing orders for fall delivery and are HAPPY to give nice discounts for early ordering..I ordered my B74 about this time last year...

I've had my 72" Meteor for 3 winters now. I don't know how much snow you get but we average about 180" per winter. The Meteor has worked fine with only regular greasing and a bit of paint in the spring. Nothing has broken, even when I picked up a rock large enough to stall the tractor all that had to be replaced was a shear pin. I thing it was money well spent.

Should get a chance to see an 84" Blizzard in a week or two. Right now trying to figure out how to deal with dripping anti-freeze from where the dealer installed the block heater. Don't want to haul it back over the narrow, hilly, bumpy 60-mile round trip. They installed it in the expansion plug closest to the cab. Apparently they did not use enough, or the right kind of, sealant. Sigh.

Colby Forest- I bought an 84" Blizzard w/hydraulic chute rotation late last fall from Union for $4512. That was probably not the best time of the year to buy one given that wintah is just a short way down the road, but that is also when I purchased the tractor and implements. I used it probably about five or six times last winter as I have two 4wd p/u's with plows and a teenager who likes to plow. We also don't get the amount of snow that you do in Northern Maine. The unit worked very well. I have it on a Kubota M7040. Some of the locals remarked how far it would throw the snow. My tractor is a cab model. When the wind is in the right direction, I really appreciate that upgrade.

I'm sure I'll appreciate the cab too in "wintah" and "summah" :) as well to be away from all those mini vampires.

Sponge- on your M7040, do you know if the freeze plug hole closest to your cab is threaded or not? I can't tell just by looking at my leaking block heater. It looks like it is dripping through where the bushing meets the engine block.

Do you have a manual or hydraulic deflector on your Blizzard?
