Like most dumb Americans, I didn't know exactly where Belarus was.

Between Poland and Russia, North of Ukraine, South of Lithuania and Latvia.
Population of 10 million. Capital is Minsk. Declared independence 1991. Centrally-controlled economy. Relationship with the US is not good at the moment, but not hostile. Belarus objects to the Belarus Democracy Act of 2004.
