There are no blades on this machine. The PTO turns a 24 inch cutting wheel with carbide teeth.

Man... u can't be the first customer to run into this. I wouldn't try anything that might damage anything on something that expensive, until I talked to the company on Monday. As others have hoped for, I would hope there would be a way to dismantle it a little... remove the shield... I can't believe there wouldn't be a way to get in there to clear a blockage... Such a great machine is diminished with no simple solution to what must be a common problem.

Hope you are able to resolve this quickly without damage.

Does the owners manual have tell you what to do if this happens? I would not try burning it. Did you you try using a prybar to help turn on the shaft backwards?

No, the owners manual does not address this but it does show how it is assembled and how to remove the wheel. I'll need some bigger wrenches. I'm not going to risk using a torch mainly because of the nice paint job. Don't think it would hurt otherwise. Before I take it apart, however, I am going to figure out a way to shoot a whole can of WD40 up there and pound on it a few more times.

If the stump was a reasonably fresh cut tree, and the wood high in moisture, it may dry out enough in a week or so to allow the wheel to move as it shrinks

I would not apply a high heat on it, but I would consider a heat gun to dry out the wood and shrink it

How about a picture of the stuck wood? There's gotta be a way....without burning.

Hard for me to believe you cannot disassemble enough of the grinder to get at the wood chunk with a pry bar (??). I think its just a bad luck situation that happens to all of us once in a while. I have now ground over 1600 stumps.....and never been stopped by stuck chunk of wood. Maybe I'm just luckier?? :D My grinder is similar to yours (I think Shaver makes the grinders for Woods).

Would it be possible to catch a tooth on a stump with a good edge and drive forward or backwards with the PTO disengaged to move the grinding wheel around and dislodge the obstruction?

EXACTLY what I was thinking!

Looking at the pictures, I see holes in the cutter disk.
Perhaps you could find some metal strong enough, long enough, making a lever to bolt on to the cutting disk. With that you could then use a cheater pipe, comealong, hyd jack, etc. to spin it out. This way there will be no excessive force on the gearbox.
Also what was mentioned, get some wrenches and remove the blade.
Whichever is easiest for you.

Edit: What "foote2floor" suggests would the very next thing to try, easiest to do. Best suggestion yet!

Easy, First squirt Above it, so it runs down, and below it
w/ WD40. Next put a BIG LONG WRENCH on that nut, I can't
see more but try to get a lever going at the same time and spin it out...
