A quick way to deal with this is to seal the access hole with one of those aersol cans of liquid foam insulation. It has a 1/8" plastic nozzle about 6" long that can be stuck in the hole (when its dark or dusk) and it expands about 4x once applied. Then in a day or so just trim the excess foam off the siding or surrounding surfaces.

I'll mention my favorite remedy for this situation: the shop vac. Just prop the nozzle near the entrance/exit at dusk and run an extension cord back. Wait until it is warm the next day and plug it in--it is fun to watch them fly in to enter and oops, they're gone /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif.

I had a nest behind my siding and after multiple cans of spray stuff, I did this and had them gone in one try.

I like that idea, Chris. I'll give that a try. The sprays sure aren't working, although the spray foam sure seems like a better idea that packing plumber's putty into the cracks like my friend suggested.

Saw a Discovery show last night - talked about many different types of pests (bees/wasps/ants/etc.). The part about ground nests showed a guy who collected the bees and sent them to labs for developing anti-venom treatments. Anyways, he used a homemade shopvac with a special container that captured the bees unharmed. He stated that the ground nests that he has "evacuated" contained between 400 to 5000 bees (no way to tell until he collected them). Bee careful! My sister ran over a nest with the garden tractor while mowing and ended up giving my nephew's friends a show running the 200 yards to the house while taking off her shirt. They don't mow that area anymore.
