I have contracted out thousands of hours of dozer work at my job, but I have never really operated one . Well today I got my chance. We could not find a contractor so I rented a D6 and operated it my self. The first hour was slow and it took some getting used to but I got the hang of it prety quickly. I cleared 3 mles of right of way in fairly thick mesquites today. The only downside is after operating this bad boy, my tractor is going to be pretty boring.

Did you take any pics? 3 miles is quite a bit if it was thick. That kind of quick work usually means lots of clean up work down the line. The method of go forward until the blade is full and then shove off to the side seems like the only way to make 3 miles that fast. Good job.

Heh, glad to hear you got it in an hour... I don't think I could fine-doze on any machine in an hour. I'm just not used to a six-way blade!

There is a lot of time between fine-doze and clearing right-of-way. It took me months to be able to grade a driveable roadway. In the first hour I was still grinning.
