I live in S.E. La. in deep thick woods and brush and am wondering when do those small horrible ground bees/wasps/hornets that swarm and attack relentlessly when disturbed begin to ground nest ? I need to do some heavy tractor work in back woods and want to be prepared. Doin' bush hoggin' and small tree removal to add a few woods paths.. Or not do it at all.

It you're trying to do the work before the make their nest if they haven't already made them you better do it as soon as possible. I haven't seen any yet and I've been out a good bit. I was laying on a trail today and a copper head crawled out about 5 feet from me.

If you wanted to know when the yellow jackets wont bother you any more, you'll have to wait till winter.

They are angry little boogers :) Diesel fuel poured into their main hole works. Don't light it on fire, just let it soak in. For whatever reason, I never had them take after me while on the tractor, it's like they don't recognize it as an enemy. Hope that theory holds up :D One got under my shirt a couple years back and stung me on the back. Must have hit a nerve, it felt like someone stuck a hot nail into me.

Like WoodChuckie says, the longer it goes into the summer, the more numerous they become.
Dave.

Bug guy here in Michigan. I am already seeing them in the ground, so they definately should be in the ground there....good luck

Thanks for the answers all. I guess I 'm kinda screwed from now until out long summer ends. I did do some tractor trail blazin' today and had no problems, but it was a cool day. I 've been attacked by those buggers in mass swarms too many times to take much of a chance. And I got a bad ticker now with a lot of meds. Not good for massive stings.
