Can't use a cab in my woods, and so far only one bear sighted in the area this year.

Black bear are quite common where I live. There is a frequently used den in a rock wall cave on my property and we see them several times every year. Never had any problems though.

Reminds me of a funny story. Back in the 1990's, I came home from work one February afternoon and there were several dozen cars parked along my mile long private road. There were even a half dozen parked in my driveway and I couldn't get to my house!

It turns out the PA Game Commission placed an orphaned cub in that den next to a sow and another cub who were still in hybernation. The event was publicized but no one notified me. The director of the commission was there and apologized when he saw me. They had notified the adjacent property owner by mistake.

We saw mom and the two cubs around the property many times that spring & summer. I think they got used to my wife and I and didn't feel threatened. The sow even brought the cubs out in the field one day while I was mowing. She never approached me, but I managed to get a few pics:

That tractor must have been slow, I do hope the man recovers quickly.
On the other hand I see few tractor mods in his future.
Bear cage and turret anybody?
A cab

Where I grew up in northern Vermont (~ Jericho) my parents and grandparents thought* they bought a 20 acre parcel that ran from the road to a cliff. For about 200 feet in front of the cliff it had been clear cut and let go wild and it was all blackberry patch at the time. Blackberry bushes were about 5 to 8 foot tall. When the blackberries ripened the black bears came to feed. They usually fed at night. AND they made nice paths but there was many a time when us kids (ages 8 to 11) would be up picking blackberries and hear rustling near by and leave early.

*thought they bought a 20 acre parcel = 20 years later when they went to sell it was surveyed and they had 30 acres. :)

A faster tractor? Some of these bears can move pretty fast.
