Creekbend: I was actually more worried about the doe hitting me. I got inbetween her and the bear, she stayed very close, close enough I could have reached out and touched her. The whole time she was by me she was grunting and kicking. I wish I could have done more for her but I'm not in good shape(very bad back). When the bear darted into the woods she was hot on it's butt.
Robert in NY; Our deer population has taken a nose dive in the past few years(this area), coyotes have become a problem. I normally would not get involved, I respect nature and how things are done, but the look in momma doe's eyes was straight up fear. At one time it wood be nothing to see 30-40 deer in our back yard, now we're lucky if we see 5 to 8. It really isn't the bears fault and it does need it's fair share of food. To bad the bear wouldn't go after the coyotes.
