Fairly sure it's not coons, just several big areas mowed down, stalks ripped off and the corn chewed off. Hopefully it's in the next county by now.:)

Yes, bear damage. I see alot of it, usually they will clear a large area so beware. We had two different boars in the field accross the street a "very steep incline" work on that field all summer last year. From 300 yards it looked like each one cleared a quarter acre. The are almost better than a combine.

Wow! That's some serious damage. I also noticed how gravelly your soil is. It looks like there is no chance of seeing tracks. Does all your soil have that much gravel?

No, usually in Pa soil, there's more rock. That soil is quite clean.

What you call gravel we call "flinty ground." When you look at it there seems to be more stones than soil but the soil is there. This type of ground holds the moisture very well and grows nice corn and potatoes. It is tough on farm equipment such as plows and discs. Only certain parts of the farm has that type of soil and that's where I try to grow the sweet corn.

I've seen deer do that kind of damage. Once walked a corn field probably 8-10 acres in size and there was a 50 yard sort-of-circle well into it that was just flattened. They apparently were living and feeding there.

Look at the path in/out. Deer can walk the rows coming and going with no damage. Perhaps a bear could, but I would think a bear would tend to leave damage coming and going.....but then I've never seen a bear walk a cornfield so it would be only a guess.

That makes sense LMTC. Most of the deer damage that we have is with the young stalks, especially during a dry spell. They will come in and chew the tops off the young corn, I'm assuming partly for the moisture content of the corn.

Morning Scotty----Actually damage has not been bad, just several areas in one patch and some stalks torn down in another. I think the predator eyes do help and I move them every other day. We have been blessed with a good harvest this year, rain when we needed it and hot humid nights during the growing period.
