I believe that this is a New England tradition... Dig a hole, start a fire and build a pile of coals, put a dutch oven full of beans in, and 10 hours later supper is ready. It's been a few years but I cleaned my hole out; (two truck rims welded together and buried) started a fire, then came inside and got the beans soaking. Hopefully tomorrow night I will be enjoying them.

Reads like a slow cooker.
It's really no different, just another way of doing them. It takes more work but I like playing with fire!! :p

Beans beans the musical fruit.. The more you eat, the more you toot. I love beans and they love me. Problem is, when I eat them, my wife don't like me...:p
Then you should try Anasazi beans. We learned about them many years ago, during a visit to Mesa Verde. We were able to find them at a specialty foods store, and later on our regular grocery store carried them. The are a bit sweeter, cook a lot faster, and PRODUCE LITTLE OR NO GAS! And they don't hurt my stomach like the regular Pinto Beans do.

If you can't find them locally, you can go to their website and order them.
