Battery Time

Hello All:

Went out today to start moving around 20 yards of malch and being this was the first time starting in 40 degree weather the old battery couldn't take it.

Without opening a hug can of worms.....what is the best/easiest/cheapest replacement without paying for a JD branded OEM.

I would like to use the factory mounting brackets and not fabricate some crazy contraption to hold the battery.

Check your local Wal-mart, they carry a good selection of batteries and their prices would be lower than most. My buddy found a replacement battery for his NH 1520 there that was an exact fit and it was something like $40 exchange.

The best solution is a bettery maintainer, if your battery isn't already shot.

Regular bartteries for automotive applications have two shortcomings: They aren't made for the rough service of a vehicle without a suspension. They'll rattle apart if you have a lot of rough ground.

The other is the typical tractor useage includes perios of disuse that really wears on them.

To me, as I keep saying, its hard to beat $60 more for an Optima. That sounds high, but not at the rate I value my time, especially if I would have to replace a radiator or two and do frame repairs...

I bought a direct replacement at TSC (under $40 I think) that uses the same tie-down as the original battery. I believe it is a 22N. I've had it in almost a year with no corrosion problems at all.
