Battery Tenders

I use one on my Corvette and it works GREAT! Plug it in and forget about it. Paid around $30.00 for it.

To the best of my knowledge a battery will last longer if it is fully charged with fluid levels maintained.

Keeping the tender on should do no damage but conversely may not help when the tractor is in regular use.

Right or wrong I have a small 5" x 18" solar panel on the roof of my tractor shed connected to two of my tractor batteries.

I put a note on the steering wheel (says "charger"). When I take it off, I put the note on the charger. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

That would work for me.. my charger cord is too short to reach the wheel. In the winter, I hook my heater cables through the wheel, or over the shuttle lever, but this little skinny short black cord is a problem. I'll try the sign!

I'm wondering if it's worth keeping using it in the summer? Does this extend the life of the battery, or in any other way help during summers when the tractor will typically be used on at least a weekly basis for mowing and so on?

Personally I wouldn't bother using it during the warm months. The self discharge of the battery will bo so minimal that the Tender would probably do nothing. I have never used a tender or charger (except once) on my Ford 2120 that I've had since 1987. I've only changed the battery once also. The tractor never fails to start even when it hasn't been run in a month or two and been stored outside. I suppose if it was stored somewhere where there was power I might use one.
