Battery JD 1010 gas

I've acquired a John Deere 1010 gas powered tractor. The battery is 8 y old and now dead. It appears to be a truck battery. An auto store said it wasn't the best for field work because the cells were not self-contained and likely one broke down and went bad. Any suggestions on the battery I should purchase. The tractor is used 5-10 x per year for bushhogging. Prices at auto stores and a john deere outlet range from $90-110 on a battery similar to what was in it. For this money, I want to make sure I'm buying the correct battery (and would love not to spend this much!). Thanks.

I would suggest going to Costco or any store with batteries. As long as the demesion is the same for the amount of use you need the tractor.

That 1010 is an awesome machine, my Father-in-Law had one many years ago, and sold it to get a MF (bad decision). Wish he kept it.

You will get a longer life out of an off road battery. Does not have to be Deere. The off road batteries are made to take the shocks and vibration that you will expose it to.
