<font color="blue"> (As it stands I am not too happy with even the minor damage that has resulted from a little acid coming from the vent caps. Can't imagine what it would be like to have major damage done to my tractor by a lot of battery acid.

Jim, I did but didn't get far mentioning the problem to my salesman. However I didn't press the issue because at the time I was leaning toward getting an Optima battery to avoid future problems with a conventional lead-acid battery and the replacement hold-down clamp I needed only cost $2.53.
If I decide to stay with the original John Deere battery I will certainly take your advice and go back to my salesman to talk about a replacement under the warranty.
