Nobody likes oil if they have to buy it so I do think is a wish to go to other forms of energy. Just look at Europe and the desperate need for more natural gas, the belief that the "market" will always fix things is a shortcut in the brain, no market are perfect and a market where political powerplay sets the rules are far from it.

Hydrogen fuel makes more sense then batteries, IMHO. Hydrogen is the most common element, virtually inexhaustible.
Definitely has a future in aviation, some vehicles (probably trucks) and, possibly seafaring (although I expect most ships will probably be nuclear powered).

Except for the Large Nuc plants, im all in. For Nuc plants, I'm liking the idea of those smaller modular type reactors, basically the same design. Want more power output, plunk another reactor pod in place. Then on to Fusion, though i'll probably never see it be feasible, in my life time.

And diesel engines can run on many different fuels, hvo fuel is available but not in enough volume.
