Hybrids have their place as we transition to pure EVS but you can see why they are a hack at best.

Cant wait to kiss all that oil changing goodbye, but I have a feeling something else annoying will take the place of oil changes.
We don’t know all the downside, yet.

Glaciers have meted and frozen in cycles long before you were here. Warming of the globe has upside, too.
Let’s just leave it at that and stay on EVs mr environmental panic. Lol

Not true. My across the street neighbor is a policeman and when he's not on duty the car is parked at his house. Probably every city does it different.
So it is true, where he is. ;)

Here in South Bend, the police officers all have take-home cars. So they'd probably have to pay to have chargers installed at each officer's house.

“They”, meaning taxpayers? Or are you saying the cops themselves?

That makes eleven of them burned now. GM has replaced a couple of them in strong lemon-law states.

But no plan for a fix. The updates were limited in scope, simply software intended to limit charging, and to give the owner a warning of cell overheating. But owners report the software isn't warning of any problem until an alarm AFTER the car was on fire.

This is still the same GM that built my 'new era' Chevy Citation that was undriveable at 45k miles. Build it, sell it, forget it, fight any warranty claims.
Yep I have been looking into them and previously the Volts. Nephew has a 2017 Volt and his family loves it. especially for a commute to work car.

I really thought the Bolt might be a great possible future addition for my family, but the fire possibility is a real scary thing. One small fire could easily spread out of control in the country as dry as it is.
The Bolt could be bought for about 1/2 of a Tesla M3 and the hatch back made sense for shopping in town as did front wheel drive for winter plus the higher seat height versus the low slung cars.

GM also just released a warning for the affected years of 2017-2019

Move the Bolt outside after charging and

Do Not charge the car at night.

Don't want to be asleep if it should go up in flames

Maybe some good will come out of this newest fire, since the damage is limited and they did not lose the whole car. This should "Hopefully" make finding the root cause easier.

I was realistically set on buying a Bolt to replace my elderly 99 Outback. But when I saw the battery or something is in a riser under the rear seat making a low flat cargo floor impossible, I lost interest. I need a small SUV with cargo space similar to the Outback that I'm still driving, 22 years now.

Now with the fires I'm glad I backed away from choosing a Bolt.

GM says don't charge it at night? That makes an EV pretty useless.
