I always wonder at the overall net advantages of electric vehicles.

-When there is a WILDFIRE and the power company pulls the plug how do you EVACUATE with a dead electric vehicle?
-When that big push to electric is successful who will UPGRADE the electric grids to meet the demands?
-Is electric vehicle not simply MOVING the pollution from one location to another?
-Add the recycling, or lack of, considerations of all those batteries.

-It takes energy of some sort to generate electricity, water, wind, fuel, nuclear but always one or the other.
-Copper to transmit that power or batteries to store it.
-Is it really all that efficient if you take it all into consideration?
-Will EV's really deter global warming?
(there must be a formula that relates BTU's to KW's)

PILOON Will EV's really deter global warming is a $64K question. I am starting to think the answer may be NO based on more and more articles like the above one.

EV's were never about deterring global warming as much as reducing the waste associated with mining of fossil fuel which is just stored solar energy. Getting fossil fuel to the surface requires making a hole in the earth crust which consumes energy. Fracking brings it's on set of environmental issues. Refining consumes energy as does the shipping of gas and diesel. Burning it causes increases in health care costs, etc. In short continuing to depend on fossil fuels for the world's future energy needs makes as much sense as farmers to keep only using horses, mules and oxen technology for farming the land.

We are 50+ years from away from not fossil fuel for transport period. Over 10% of TBN posters will be dead when fossil fuel usage fades away. Tesla is working to sell 20 million vehicles a year by 2030 which is just a drop in the buck. Lithium Ion battery usage will be a thing of the past before most cars and trucks on the road will be EV's.

Most negative remarks come from people who have never even driven an EV say nothing about owning one meaning they are not speaking from knowledge. It is going to be physically impossible for everyone to own an EV for 50+ years anyway.

Most 10 year old kids today will never learn hope to drive because of the coming Robo taxis concept which will make personal car ownership a thing of the past for most people. A car will show up and take us where we want to go with a click from our cell phone or brain implant. : )
