I was up at my cabin over the weekend and was moving some deck boards around. As I flipped one over there was a Bat on the bottom that I must have whacked with another deck board. In the pic you can see the bone sticking out in his wing. I was going to toss him off the porch but it went into Attack mode. I know they eat insects but this one looked mean enough to eat a coyote.. Any idea what type of bat this is?? It was about 6-8 inches across the wings..

JimBrown,
It does resemble #1 but #2 eats stinkbugs and ladybugs of which there are millions around my place. Hard to say but it sure looked like he would have bitten me....

Looks like a "Pissed Off" bat to me.:D
Here's one I found at my camp in the bathroom curtains. He was pretty docile compared to your species. He only hissed a little and then settled down. He is tiny compared to your bat. I still wore leather gloves though. You never know if they've got rabies or something.

That looks like a little rat with legs... What kind is that? I hate to hurt things that are good for nature but he had a busted wing and a bad disposition.. Bad outcome.

John , That looks like your garden variety brown bat... I bet when you found him you heart went pitter pat

I remember a lifetime ago when I was a maintenance guy for the University of Md. and found one nestled in a very cold stairwell , I put him in a shoebox and took him to my little shop/office where it was warm... I had a fella that was my helper come in a little later after the bat was all warmed up and he grabbed the shoebox lid as he asked "HEY WHATS IN THIS BO    " The Bat flew out instantly just trying to get outta there.... I don't know who was more scared him or the bat??

I was rolling on the floor as he was crawling on the floor in fast motion trying to get the heck outta the room...!! It reminded me of an episode of the Three Stooges when the cook was trying to get away from the circus lion :D

When I was very young my older brother told me that the bats like to make a nest in your hair, but soon realized that he was pulling my leg.

When my younger brother and I slept upstairs, which was one big room. In the summer we had the windows open on each end of the house with no screens. On a moonlit night you could see the bats flying through the house. I thought it was neat.
