Barrery light?

Have a 2520 that recently had the factory battery die while the tractor was in the field after my son stopped to clean the front grill.

A separate battery was used to try and jump the tractor however I think the cable may have been crossed because when the key was turned to initiate the glow plugs the starter engaged. Also,... The cables were hot for a long time...even 10 mins later when I touched them.

I was able to use a separate battery to get back to the barn...and....now have also replaced the battery.

HOWEVER.... Now the battery light on the console stay on???!

Tractor seems to run fine and I had to use it for another hour without any issues.

Any ideas???

I wonder if you cooked something in the alternator when it was improperly jumped. Put a volt meter on it when running and see if you are getting the 14+ volts.

Thanks for the feedback...I will try that tomorrow. I did test the battery after running for an hour and it was still showing 13.1V but possibly was holding due to new battery????

Also just noticed the phone is now giving the tractor a barrey light instead of battery light...ughhh love auto correct!

So.... I tested the battery prior to starting today at now 12.5V.

Tested while running and after 5 mins still running PTO speed 12.3V.

With tractor off after running ...now 12.4V


Is it the alternator or does the 2520 have a co,take regulator that possibly got fried??

You should be able to unhook the battery with the tractor running. If tractor stays running the alternator is good. If tractor dies the alternator is bad. If you crossed the jumpers you very well could have blown the diodes in the alternator. Also, don't know for sure, but these engineers always seem to get cute and creative. Is it possible the battery light has some sort of reset somewhere to reset it after replacing the battery?

Caution: Sometimes when diodes are damaged, ac current is sent through the system. You may end up burning anything that is turned on like lights and solenoids.

Your tests indicate the battery is progressively discharging every time you use tractor. Why not stop guessing and have the alternator bench tested. Auto-Zone and others will do it free.

I spoke to my tractor mechanic today and he indicated there are a couple fuses between the key and solenoid that can also cause the symptom of low alternator output. His recommendation was to check those prior to pulling or replacing the alternator. Anyone ever pulled or checked those?
