Barn on hold

Well the barn will be on hold for a week or so. We had a tornado touch down here tonight. Took out part of my deck and bay window, dropped a tree on the roof, took off part of the pole building and knocked down trees everywhere. Will be fixing and cleaning up from this for awhile!

Dang... Sorry to hear that "Doc". I just got done replacing a roof that was ripped loose by a 94 MPH blast in January. Oh well, have the carpenters rebuild it "better" than it was to begin with. Insurance payments on that type of thing are great! My company is great. Replaced rolled roofing with Ondura which is much better than original.

I'm sitting here with a mental picture of you covered with a plastic garbage bag to use the keyboard. Water and gypsum still falling around you with a slight breeze. Coffee cools off faster in those conditions too. It will make you look closer at the new barn during construction. Do I need extra bracing? Should I go with a heavier material? What about the building site? Almost a little gun shy to start thinking the next might be worse.
We keep a coffee mug collection like some do salt and pepper shakers. I toted out a 30 gallon can full of broken mugs after the Seattle earthquake not long ago. Everything that was on a shelf, wasn't. The doors didn't open and close proper after. AND I WAS SITTING IN THE MIDDLE OF IT WITH A HOT CUP OF COFFEE!. Ouch.
The old barn we have is leaning more to the south than it use to. Mass reports of wells going dry when ground shifted.

Wow, that had to be a scare! I have never been that close, just seen the after results. Sure is the way plans work sometimes. Your brothers all lined up to come in, site graded, material gathered and boom, Mother Nature reminds us that her tractor is bigger than our tractors./w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif Most important is you and yours are fine.

I'm very sorry to hear about your damage. It sounds like you did an excellent job when you built your house if you had a tornado pass that close and you didn't lose your entire roof or more than your deck and window to the wind itself. If there's anything I could bring you from this area, let me know.

Geeez. When trees start falling on roofs, it's not good. By the sounds of it, it appears that no one was hurt.

I guess you could always take the "lightning never strikes twice" philosophy, and be pretty confident that won't happen again any time soon.

Richard- I hope and trust you only suffered property damage and no personal injuries. Were you home at the time?

I've been pretty close to several tornados back in Indiana. Pretty scary and powerful stuff!
