Bandsaws and coldsaws

With bandsaws it's all about the blade and having the right speed and feed rate. Bandsaw blades need to be broken in or they will wear fast and cut slower. If you have lots of cuts in the same material, you can stack the pieces in a bandsaw.

My bandsaw blade blade sometimes hangs when I stack cuts horizontally and leave the saw unattended. I finally destroyed a motor that way.

Do you repeat the same cut? If so some bandsaws will self feed and cut.

Try a Kool Mist unit on the cold saw. Great lubrication for the blade with no liquid to deal with once the cut is done.

Talking about cutting metal, I need something better than a reciprocating saw. I am thinking about a abrasive cut off saw since are cheaper, but I don't want to kill myself in the process.

I worked production in the saw department for incentive pay one summer. No one wanted to stand and wait for the saw to cut. To get to that place, every sawyer had 2 saws running at the same time.

I found an ellis 1500 for $950. How do you guys think the 1500 compares to the 1600 and 1800?
