I have a 2013 DK40SEH and I am trying to figure out what the max 3 pt ballast weight should be before I build one. The manual I have says the max 3pt weights will be found on the following page, there is nothing about ballast weights on the following page or any where else in the manual!!?? Any help would be appreciated.

TractorData lists the rear lift capacity at 2494 lbs at 24". I realize that's not a recommendation for ballast weight, but at least the upper end.
For a machine of that size I would be looking at 1000-1500 lbs of 3 point ballast, but that's just my opinion. Some implements make good ballast if you can tolerate them hanging out further.

My Backhoe makes a good ballast, but it hangs out too far for some of the areas I need to get into. Plus I forget it is back there and I have smacked some trees pretty good without meaning to. I picked up a 55 gal drum I intend to fill with concrete.

I use a 55 gallon barrel of cement with a draw bar through the middle of it. It keeps things stable as I lift near the loaders capacity. If you're building something I'd consider starting there and build a rack that allows you to hang additional weights on it. Maybe a suitcase rack/bar that can be mounted in the top end of the barrel. The concrete should keep things pretty stabilized, I would add wire in the barrel/concrete to keep it from cracking if you added more suitcase type weights.

If you have any steel plate around and a plasma cutter they make a good counter-weight that allows you to easily adjust the amount of weight on the back end.

I have not been on the forum for some time. I built a 1300lb counterweight for my DK5010. I think my 3pt lift capacity is 2600 lbs. I love it. So much more stable.

What did you end up making.

Here is the rear ballast weight that I built for my NX4510hst. I believe that it weights 1000lbs. It was pretty simple to make. I cut the barrel top out. Next was making two slots in the sides for the drawbar. I welded a 2" x 2" square tube for the upright onto the front top half of the drawbar. The upright was from a storage rack and had spaced out 5/8" holes in it. This made it easy to fill the upright with concrete. Next was the trailer hitch receiver installed thru the barrel and welded to the drawbar and upright. I forget how many bags of concrete got added to the barrel. Notching out the upright was done with a sawzall. The location of this ballast weight on the 3pth is up close to the tractor. This allows plenty of room for working in tight places. The cost was under $100 to build it. I had the drawbar and upright steel. The barrel was $5 or $10, don't remember. The receiver hitch came from Harbour Freight. The bags of concrete I got from HD using a sale coupon.
