Howdy y'all

I unexpectedly found myself without any extra pieces of baling wire laying around. I don't even know where I got the stash that I was using.
All of my round bales are net wrapped, so I have no need for baling wire from a square baler. What is everyone else using as an alternative to actual baling wire from square bales?

Electric fence wire, of the gauge you want.

Small square bales, around here, are twine-bound. However small spools of wire are readily available at the hardware store... mostly used for 'mousing' a hook or binding a lamb/suckling-pig for a sit-roast.

^^^ WranglerX has posted an example of what's available. It comes in different gauges & lengths.

I was wondering about rebar tie wire. I used it quite a bit 2 summers ago building our garage foundation. It seemed to be easy to break once you start twisting it. Many times, when I put the twist tool on it and started twisting, it would snap off before I felt it was tight.

I wonder what the strength of it is compared to "real baling wire".

Hmm, just looked up some quick numbers and found several references to rebar tie wire being 16ga black annealed wire is 40-60,000psi. Didn't look for specs on the baling wire.

And its about a 100 year supply....
Sell 100 ft rolls to your neighbors, and give some as gifts.

:)

PS: the main point was the wire gauge of real baling wire. And it is meant to be tightly twisted without breaking.

I have used rebar tie wire for decades. If you need something stronger double it up (y)
