Net wrap is nice, really quick over twine.I have a double spear and carry two bales on front(set them next to each other and put a spear in each) and one on back(4x5's).

We looked at a loader for the 6715 that had a spear with 4 spears. A guy we know had same set up on a 6615 an he carried 2 5x6 with the loader an 1 on the rear. Only bad thing was the loader alone was over 16 grand. Heck we bought the 5055d with loader for less than that almost new ha ha

Yeah that's a lot 16grand,dang. I have also thought about getting the rear spear that can carry two bales but I usually use my GN and have a ball mounted on my hay spear, can just drop trailer and load it carry to hay trap or use dually if have help and leave tractor at both ends.

I was doing some work at a dairy once n I saw the coolest thing. The tractor had a bucket with grapple but instead of uxing the grapple to grabe bales the grapple was a spear. When they wanted to scoop silage just let the grapple up an wammo. But I haven't been able to find anything like it. Must have been homemade

But carrying 2 4x5 bale at a ti,e across the farm gets old fast.

I have a ball welded to top of rear spear. Use tractor to load gooseneck then hook up and spear one with loader. I can move 12 bales at a time by myself. Could do more if I had a bigger trailer. If I add a second body and vehicle I gain 1 bale per trip. Hard to justify the extra labor.

Yeah we have 2 18 ft wagons we pull bales on. My dad modified it to fit 3 4x5 bales across

That would be nice. How did he do it. I like 4x5 because I can haul 2 wide without being oversized.

He got ahold of some floor frames off some 18 ft panalized storage sheds worked out really well for the most part. But we still found ourself carry 2 at a time 1 with loader an 1 with 3pt. It was way to wide to pull down the road. So when we bale our 1 field away from the farm we would either use utility trailer or my uncles 28 ft gooseneck. I'm sure once I get a better tractor an upgrade to 5x6 baler we will use them more.

I bale using netwrap and charge extra if a customer wants twine. With netwrap all other things equal one can bale 25% more bales in the same amount of time as with twine.

Jim,
I know you folks in Texas probably don't have this problem but up Montana way, net wrap is easier to get off the bale when you're feeing at -27F and the bales are snow covered and frozen. Yesterday I opened up a straw bale that was twine tied and it was nasty to get the plastic twine off the frozen bale. And I dropped it from 6 feet to loosen it! After using net wrapped bales for about 4 years, I wish everyboy used net instead of twine! here we pay extra to the guy who custom bales for us to get net.

Because of the added time to apply twine vs net I charge $1 a bale more for twine than net. I hate twine wrapped bales and it's almost impossible to get every bit of twine off the bale especially if one is baling large windrows at 6+ MPH. The 2 starter threads of twine are buried several layers deep in the hay.

I have a JD 535 I bought new in '91. Only used it to bale my own hay so it being twine doesn't bother me. If I was going to bale commercial I'd for sure get net wrap. It was an option when I bought this baler but not many people used it at the time. This baler rolls a beautiful roll of hay and it's paid for so I'll stay with twine for now.
