A large wooden gear (38" dia) has been in my family for many years. As I recall my father telling me, the pattern was for a baler. Apparently the original design of the gear had only one large boss where (forgive me I do not know the correct term) the ram for compacting the hay would attach. A relative had this pattern created for casting a gear which provided two additional bosses, thus tripling the "life" of the gear (I'm guessing the bearings were more of a bushing type rather ball or roller then). I have no idea of the period or make of baler this may have been used on. However, I would like to mount it and give it the recognition it seems to deserve. Is anyone able to provide some educated guesses on time period and/or equipment it may have been used on? Thanking everyone in advance, Dan Clancy

It looks a bit like the gears from a New Holland 77 or Super 77. Those were built some time in the 1940s and maybe early 1950s. They have the bale chamber on its side.
