Nothing to do with pins, just plain old column instability
Longer the column less load it takes to buckle it. The pins only guide which direction the failure happens ie about the rotation of the pins.

A selfish thought, but I hope this problem is isolated to the new BH 75/90 and not the B4672A.

BH90 Update
Dealer got the parts in. I removed the cylinder and took it to the dealer for rebuild. No word on warranty coverage, but I assume it is until I find out otherwise. The dealer is working on that assumption also. The dealer says they have to send it to California and Kubota will decide if they are going to cover it or not.
I do not have an ETA on getting the cylinder back yet.

This is just one guy's opinion...but if it it were me, and if the cylinder bent when the backhoe was being operated in the normal fashion, I would not take no for an answer with respect to the warranty issue. At least not until the beat me into the ground far enough to say uncle... /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif
Only you know how it bent. It would be possible to bend that cylinder if you had the bucket hooked on something, for example, and tried to drag it with the tractor. That would not be normal operation of the hoe.
Kubota (and none of us) know the facts of what was happening when the cylinder rod bent. If justified, and they say no warranty...well, why should it not be replaced for free, if it failed during normal operation?
Hopefully they will not give you a problem...but if they do keep in mind that they don't know what was going on when the thing bent. Stress that you were not abusing it...

I WAS using the BH in the manner I was supposed to, and I have not turned up the hyd pressure, as I had thought about previously, due to what seemed to be lack of performance from the FEL. I have learned to deal with the power the tractor has, and bit off a smaller chunk when necessary. As I said, I have stalled the hydraulics umteen times, and just back out to get a small bite for the next try. That's what I expect to happen, not bending or breaking of parts. I was sure that Kubota had designed it this way, so I didn't mess with the hyd pressure.

I asked him what had happened and he said, "same thing as before". I said WHAT . "Yea, this is the third cylinder that I bent and Kubota wanted me to bring the hoe in for some testing". To make a long story short, the problem was in the relief valve to that cylinder. One side of the valve was popping off at the recommended 2300-2400 psi and the other side was not popping off until over 5000 psi . The cylinder was not made for that kind of pressure and as a result, bends. It seems to be a design error or a assembly line error, no one really said, but Kubota is footing the bill. I thought this info may help anyone else with this problem.

Update: The dealer said they cannot get the cylinder apart to rebuild it. He said they are ordering a new cylinder that should be here by the end of the week.
He keeps hinting that I had to be abusing the BH for this to happen, just driving around, I assume, as if I was using it as a plow. I don't know what's up with that.

Give your dealer a free membership to TBN.... Who knows what he might learn if he reads a few Kubota posts???? Possibly we should also offer one to the Kubota representatives. Got the new cylinder, and installed it. BH works fine now. Dealer talks like the jury is still out on the cylinder. He said the Kubota rep is not on his feet yet, recovering from recent surgery. This is more hinting that Kubota may reject it for warranty.
I am afraid that I will get hit with a bill that is outrageous, since I would not have had the dealer replace the part if they were not going to warranty it.
Don't worry, I WILL be calling in the witnesses that saw it bend if they try to reject warranty.

You should have the dealer test out the machine in its entirety
because maybe it is the relief valve? this might happen again..
let them install it, because they can say you installed it wrong
Show them the pictures as well...it might have to be used as proof of normal use and not abuse...

Too bad you could not stroke the old cylinder to find the relief set points. Seems as though they figured it out somehow at the factory with the other cylinders?
