Different dogs won't help unless they are older lay around dogs. Dogs dig. Put up the Elec fence or fix it as has been mentioned are the ways to be neighborly.

Tom
I don't agree with your statement... I currently have 5 dogs, all are inside of a fence - standard field fencing on T-posts, they don't dig to get out - in fact they have never gotten out.
Granted 2 of them are of 15 years old - springer spanial, and a red healer, but the other two are young big mastiffs 3 yr old and 4 yr old.
The small mastiff is 120lbs, and the big girl is 170lbs. Either of them coudl simply push through the fence, and their paws are like a drag line if they want to dig.
It is really all about the training when they are young - mine have never gotten out and respect the borders of the fence.

If you have runners, it is from a lack of training, and it is a hard habit to break. If they do damage, or bite someone while they are running, and can be traced back to the house - you are still responsible. Time to deal with that, before it become a financial issue.

Thanks to all of you for your ideas on dogs & fencing.
It is appreciated.

Yesterday Bobby & Riley were busy with a snake under a tin shed. Dog sitting about 20 feet away, just watching. Snake did not rattle, so I sat down & called Dog.
He slowly came to me, started rubbing his ears & petting him. In just a few seconds he just walked away. No response when called.

A little later I saw the snake, long pretty orange & cream king snake.

Riley does keep improving & acting better. If she ever gets o veer her wonder lust may turn out fine. Dog I see no hope for, just plain anti social, even wit the other dogs. He & Riley run together when out & that's about it.

More later,
Jim

You are one **** of a writer! Not grammar and punctuation stuff, but your ability to tell a story. Most people, including myself, can't. Really enjoy it. Thanks.

Well some new things to write about.

Riley & dog still gone after about 3 days. Is this the time one or both don't make it back?? I have given up on trying to keep them in.

Yesterday there was an almost rain two times. Could not see any wet spots, but sure made things smell good. Some lighting in the far distance last night. Today 3 almost rains. one of them I could even see some places where the drops hit. But in about 30 seconds they were gone. Overcast sky & wind keeping temp down.

Bobby alerted me to some human interlopers. Nice shinny 4x4 pick up came down the easement on the west side. Got to property on south side, backed up & turned around at my gate, they saw me looking & waved. In just a little while Bobby went nuts. There they were 3 of them in the corner of a jog in east side of the fence. Had their survey & GPS stuff, stuck right in the corner. I let them know in no uncertain terms to get the he!! out of there & off my property. Not 1 of them would even speak to me. After a little while and a couple of more warning they left

I know what they were looking for & where it is. Had they the curtsey to ask I could have shown it to them. Several years ago 2 other survey people were there, one of them jumped the fence & started digging in the yard. I knew who the worked for & called their boss, told him I wanted their address so I could go dig in their yard. He told me he would take care of the problem.

If these folks had the courtesy to ask I would be a lot nicer to them.
Its the city of Tucson on another land grab. About 15 years ago they lost in the court when the judge ruled against them. Has not stopped them. 3 Or 4 years ago the city fenced off an area about 3 miles wide & 6 or so miles long. Including state land & easements

A dove pair have or are building a nest about 8 feet from where I sit on the back deck. Doves need to go to nest build school, they build the crappiest nests. Watched them at work, he brings sticks & she tries to build the nest. She drops more sticks than go into the nest. She may be sitting the eggs now.

More Later,
Jim

Should have help the trespassers at gunpoint till the sheriff arrived. That will send a clear message.

What were they looking/digging for??

+1 on calling the Sheriff, but don't bother the trespassers so they'll stick around long enough for the deputy to show up. If it is the city boys again, get a copy of the police report and forward it to the Tucson paper, along with a complaint that they're trying to steal your land. That'll generate some embarrassing headlines, especially if some enterprising young reporter can trace it back to the Mayor or City Council
