I'm so sorry to hear this, what bad news. I've been reading this thread for a long time, I love your stories about daily life in the desert. But this is a chapter I wish had never been written. Again, I'm so sorry for your loss.

I am not the author of this but it does bring some comfort to me and hopefully you, too;

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Jim sorry to hear this , this is the exact same thing that happened to our two goldens luckily my wife was there and able to get them apart the big dog was gone for a minute or more!! No collars for them now unless we walk them.

Little Brat was a good & fun part of the family. Kind of pain in the butt at times, but always cheerful & happy.

I like to think & believe she is with her second mother "Kirby" & they are having a good time together.

Although she is really missed here. I am sure some folks would not understand how many tears are shed for a silly pain in the butt dog.

Every time I stopped doing something here she would come to get petted & scratched. When told to go away, she would go in a circle & come back poking me with her nose,, saying More, more & more.

I am either going to engrave so blue/gray slate rock with her name on it & the same for Kirby. Other choice is a concrete pad also engraved. Wood here does not last long, either bugs or weather kills it fairly soon.
