I'm new with skid steers. I'm thinking it would be helpful to add a backup camera since rear visibility is difficult.

I've seem some cameras advertised for skid steers (at a high price, LOL) but wonder if the automotive type (mounts on rear license plate) sold at Walmart for $100 would be useful.

Has anyone tried one of these?

Seems like it might work, BUT, how well with all the jaring? Maybe you could connect it with some type of rubber mount so it wouldn't get bounced around so much? Would a mirror work, I realize it might not beause of the design of skidsteers.

Ken,

I also had the same thought. I installed one of the $100.00 backup cameras on my In-Laws car last year. It seems to work well. You have the option to choose a "mirror' view, or a straight on view. You can also set it up to be on any time the acc. circuit of the car is energized -OR- on only when the car is in reverse (thru back up light circuitry). I may try one of these on the back of my T190. The view in that thing backing up is horrible.

How do you like that M5040? I have been lusting over a M7040 4x4 with cab and AIR CONDITIONING, to replace my M5400. Looks like you have many toys like I do. I want a mini-ex but my wife said something about the next piece of equipment and a divorce. Just kiddin....

What skid steer do you have?

The semi-local JD dealer is including these instead of rear view morros on some tractors. Mirrors are $1000, these are $600.
The brand/model is "Cab Cam"

I put the $100 model from Sam's Club on my 1 ton box truck. It is actually better in some ways than the stock unit that came on my Tacoma. The screen is way bigger. Shaking may be an issue. Mine gets some weird static on the screen when I hit bumps backing up. It still is way better than a mirror. Especially when hooking up a trailer.
