I would look for one that has a subframe mount style rather than using the three-point lift arms.

The backhoe puts a tremendous amount of stress on whatever it is mounted to, way more and in different directions (sideways and up) than normal pulled 3pt implements do. Consider that the backhoe can lift the backend of the tractor off the ground and move it left or right a couple feet.

My NH backhoe subframe fell apart from metal fatigue at the point the backhoe attaches to the subframe. It is made from reinforced c-channel. I had it rebuilt at a welding fab shop. It has seen a lot of use though. Just digging dirt is not so bad for wear. When you start messing with rocks and stumps it really works the backhoe and what it is mounted to.

The repeated stresses, down, up, side to side, some amount of twisting too, is more than I would want on the lift arms. Lift arms are designed to lift and pull.

There have been some NH tractors broken in half at the bell housing-transmission by 3pt mounted backhoes.

Ah... good input. Thank you for bringing that to my attention. Frame mount it is then.

I have an 8 1/2 foot NH 758C sub frame mounted BH on my NH 1920 (about the same size as your TC 40). I have owned it for 13 years and have only had 1 major problem where I bent the bucket cylinder while digging out a double oak stump. Check your PM. Bill C

I bought a 6 ft. backhoe for my TC 30 from Liberty Implements. I did buy a used subframe but have not made up any brackets yet. I dug lines last summer for a water line to my garage, dug a ditch to change the pex lines for my Outdoor wood burner and also a ditch for draining my downspouts on my new garage. I had no problems with the 3 pt. mount. But as was mentioned earlier I would not attempt to dig up any tree stumps or dig in a rocky area. Depends what you want to use it for I guess. Liberty has a nice website and I am happy with the product.

Rockarosa you might want to get that subframe mounted sooner than later, there have been some horror stories from other members in the past about their TC 30's cracking at the trans bell housing. Here is one link http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/...other-laws-tc-30-ready.html?highlight=cracked This post is not necessarily about a backhoe but the added weight alone could cause you grief. Might be a good idea to check your bolts and bell housing now even if you have not had a problem.

Hi Bud, yes I am aware of the bell housing problem and I did torgue all the bolts which were fine but I still checked. I like the TC 30 but if I could swing it I would go for a 50 H P Massey or Mahindra. They seem to be a lot beefier.

I found a new, never-used 9 1/2' NH 759C with subframe over this past summer and adapted it to my '01 TC40D. Awesome.
