slorn:

sorry to hear you are having problems: I have the JW03 hoe myself and it has the independant hyd pump which bolts above the PTO shaft and engauges a slot. I first thought it may have not have the PTO engauged ot that slot didn't get ingauged to the pump correctly but if you are getting fluid movement in the tank then that must not be the case for those two items. I too have sat in the tractor seat pushed in the clutch about 50 time then tried to opperate a control lever to raise or shift the hoe while moving /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif ya didn't work too well lol. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif the hyd valve bank would seem to be the big culpret: I have not taken mine appart but have removed the panels and cleaned around it. (extra grease I slathered on everything to protect the valve spools from rust) the part you described seemed to be the right one for the pressure reliefe valve setting. they are adjustable. has the hoe EVER worked? if not then I would first try to increase the valves setting. the cap has an adjustment screw but you have to loosen a lock nut first. small adjustments and preferable with a pressure gauge installed!. I didn't need to adjust mine at all, but I did have to adjust the FEL valve relife (it wouldn't pick up much when I fist got it up and running) I suspect that this may be the problem.

anyhow hope you find it and when you do post a follow up as to the repair.

Mark,

Your feedback is great. i am indebted to this site and all the helpful posts. I hooked up the hydraulic backhoe lines to get the back hoe into position for mounting to the tractor (frame mount) It seemed to work fine, stablizers raised and lowered, etc...

Then I disconnected the two hydraulic lines from the pump and manuvered the tractor into place.

Bolted the backhoe frame mounts on the tractor, reconnected the hydraulic lines, and not action from the controls?

I'm baffled, when I rev the engine up to 2K rpm, the fluid is really going through the backhoe tank (the level increases and then evens out)

I think the pump is good? Please help me with the following:

1. what type of pressure gague should I buy for checking the pressure?
a. any idea where to get a metric one
b. is there any particular fitting I should put the gague on?
- example, one of the stablizers or bucket lines?

Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks

Be careful not to have pto engaged when bh pump mounted and hoses are off. Pump is lubed by the hyd oil, and will be damaged if run very long. Any chance you put the hoses on the pump reversed?

I'll admit I have not been inside thie PR valve, but I hope there was some type of spring in there. The adjustment increases pressure on the spring which holds that valve closed till the pressure exceeds the spring.

John,

the length of the hoses will not allow me to install the other way. currently while sitting on the backhoe seat (drivers seat in reverse position) the right hose comes from the hydraulic fluid tank and left hose goes to the lever controls.

If the hydralic pump was enguaged with out hoses, it was only for a minue or two. I dont recall if I had it enguaged when positioning the tractor.

I think I am down to four things:

1) check pump supply hose to make sure it's not kinked inside

2) unscrew and clean / check all valves in hydralic control

3) remove every hose on hydralic canisters and drain

4) Replace pump

Other than those four things, I don't know what else to try.

Thanks Again

Bluechip,

I will try to take a photo of the PV and pin. When I disassembled the cap it looked like:

1) 2 - 3 inch stud with cap on the bottom and a retaining nut tightened down on cap

2) With cap unscrewed and removed, a silver metal pin like a cone (looked like float pin from a gasoline carb) with a rubber o ring around the bottom slid out

3) There was no spring inside the cap and when looking up into the hole I did not see a spring

I will try to take the whole assembly off (it's held on by four allen screws). I will let you know what I find.

Also, I am assuming the lower the cap / retaining nut - the higher the flow rate. But this is an assumption and my 10 adjustments last night did not allow any movement from the hydralic controls.

Thanks

If no one else chimes in, I'll check my hoses and orientation, tonight and report back. From the tank standpoint, I believe you are correct. I was refering to swapped at the pump, vs swapped at the tank. ie thats were I thought you would have disconnected them from, otherwise that would have been a mess. Mine were long enough to swap at the pump, since we were talking about the clutch, and other dumb tricks, I thought I'd throw in mine. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

From memory, but don't trust it, (I'll check tonight) the tank supply hose should go to the left side of the pump (normal tractor seat orientation).

This might help if taking pump apart: http://johnstractor.com/HoePump.html

bluechip

attached is the BH pv valve disassembled

Please give any feedback on the following:

1) the tighter the cap is screwed in, the higher the cone shaped piece goes into the top

2) Which way do you think would increase pressure to the controls?

3) any idea on how I can try and adjust the PV settings
a. do I put a pressure gage on any specific hydralic line?
b. can I use a water pressure gage and adapt a few metric fittings to fit a line
c. any idea which line I should test it on?

thanks

I got home before dark and checked the BH hoses and the big surprise was my memory was correct. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif
