Backhoe Question for JD 2520

I currenlty have the JD 2520 - I am looking for a backhoe attachment, aside from the JD 46BH are there any other compatible brands out there that might be a litle cheaper but still suffice.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Look at the Woods Groundbreaker series. Not sure they are that much cheaper though...Backhoes are expensive!

Other than Taylor Way (I think I have the name correct)I doubt your going to find any ,especially this small much cheaper than a JD (actual price not list).Then when you factor in mounting/dismount convience of the JD units to after market ,the choice is clear.When you get into larger units there are more choices and this may no longer be the case,but as previously stated ,there not cheap.

Don't know what Deere wants for one but I will sell you a JD green Woods 6000 w/ subframe,hydraulics and 12" bucket for $5,000 plus freight to you or if you bring your tractor here we will install it for $250.00

Rick Wallace: What does it mean when you say we get "hydraulics"? Is the Woods 6000 powered by its own pump? Also, if we mount a Woods 6000 with subframe, on a John Deere 2520, can we keep the 3-pt equipment all on the tractor? I think I read that the JD subframe backhoe requires removal of the 3-pt draft arms. Not huge, but it is a factor. And, while I am on the subject, where do I sit? Thanks!

R Wallace will have to confirm for the Woods, but for the JD46, the "hydraulics" for the BH would be the power-beyond kit to tap into the tractor's open-center hydro system. And yes, you do have to remove the 3pt arms to mount the BH. Really not a big deal and takes only about 5 minutes. Takes about another 15 minutes to finish mounting the BH. The key is to have a solid, level palce to store the BH and to line up the tractor totally straight when backing in to mount it.

With the Woods backhoe, do you need to remove the MMM lift linkage to mount the backhoe as you need to with the JD 46 backhoe.

I don't really know a whole lot of what is required for the backhoe attachments..I am still a newbie when it comes to my green little baby...however I do see the two type's out there...woods 6000 and the taylor 3pt hitch? Ebay is selling the taylor for approx. $4K and mentions it's an 'all-in-one- setup' meaning you just hook it on to the 3pt hitch. My question is whether this is too much weight and will the 2520 have enough juice to run it properly??

My desire to get the backhoe is merely for doing work (removing tree's, minor lansacaping) around the yard...with two little kids I can;t be spending half a day with a spade.

Personally I would not want a 3 point mounted hoe but that is just me. I remember removing stumps with my 4115 that had a 46 hoe and you can get tossed around pretty good if you are not careful.

I also would absolutely not put a 3PT mounted BH on a small tractor like a 2520. The frames of these small tractors are not designed for the stresses a BH will put on the tractor. That is why the good BH's like the Woods or the factory #46 have a subframe mount system that correctly distributes the stresses that the leverage and hydraulic force of the BH produce.
