I have ordered my new cab tractor 4520 and I checked today and it should be delivered by 2/25. My question I have is one I have posted in the past. I am keeping my 448 backhoe to put on the new tractor. Some said it will not work, some at John Deere said it would, and some said I may need different mounting brackets. Do any of you guys know if the mounting plates that go on the cab tractor are different than the open station tractor or is the mounting brackets on the backhoe itself different? I have been wanting to order the right brackets if that is what I need but no one seems to know. The dealers I have talked to said they have not sold enough of them to know and I am not having much luck navigating the part section on JD web site. I have tried to find a cab tractor to look at and compare my bracket to but there is none around here to be found. I was hoping to get the answer I needed so I could get what I needed before the tractor gets here. Any help you guys could give I would appreciate. Thanks.

It would be good to know if the mounting is the same setup for both the older and new backhoe. It could be that the new subframe will fit yours, wish I knew. Have you looked into having your subframe extended backwards about 12 inches? It would seem that would fix you up.

Either way assuming you kept your subframe and backhoe I would look hard into extending what you have.

Have a look at this: John Deere - Parts Catalog

You can also check out the 448 mounting plate as well.

I had to dig around ;) a bit to find the rear mounting plate - but it's there.

Good luck.

I think I may have it figured out. From the pictures I can find it looks like the mounting bracket for the cab tractor is a little different than the ones I have. Looks like they cut some reliefs for cab clearance and then added some braces. Doesn't look like anything I can't modify my self. All the dealers I have talked to have not been much help. They just can't find the answers of what the difference is. I believe the hoes are identical it is just the mounting brackets on the tractor itself that are different. JD priced new brackets at $2000. I think I can modify mine for a lot less. Thanks for everyones help. When I get the tractor and get the hoe mounted I will post what I had to modify to make it work.

It really depends on when you bought the hoe. After Deere made them acceptable to fit on cab machines the mt plates are the same for open station vs cab units. To the best of my knowledge the only problem was there was not enough room for an operator seat if mounted on a cab unit (seat would not fold down for it would hit rear of cab). I beleive the current brackets are to move the hoe back just a little to accomodate. But may not be correct I have not put a tape measure to both.
