I have been a lurker for years and want to thank all of you for the great tips and information you have passed on. I now have a problem and hope someone has an idea for fixing it.

I have a TC45DA with a New Holland backhoe and have developed slop in the subframe where it attaches to the tractor in the rear under the 3 point hitch. This attachment consists of a female wedge shape attached to the tractor into which a male mating piece on the backhoe supframe fits.

There was no slop in this area when I first got the tractor but now it moves vertically when I dig. I can slip a paint stirring stick into the opening which is about 1/8 inch thick.

The dealer told me there is no adjustment for this so I presume all mounting holes are match drilled.

Does anyone have any idea of where I should start to adjust the slop out?

The foregoing may be as clear as mud. If it would be any help I can get some photos.

Thanks for your attention.

Your dealer is correct. They get that way. It isn't likely to get much worse. There needs to be sufficient clearance to be able to attach and detach the hoe without pry bars, hammers, and swearing (which usually accompanies new machines with all the paint and 'new' all over them. It's pretty much the nature of the beast. What you should watch is the hardware attaching the subframe to the hoe and diagonal braces. That will likely require retorquing at least once.

Thanks for the reply and advice Rick. I plan to try making a shim to take up the slack which I hope to hold in place with bungee cords. If sucessful I will post a picture of it.
