At $150 (for a cheaper CAT 1 one at least) it's cheap to get one to see how it works. Will bust roots & pull up rocks ok.
Pallet forks & a bucket spade ($150 shovel that slips on the forks) makes for a ghetto backhoe. Nowhere as capable as the real thing, but suprisingly capable for the price . I can dig holes to plant our live 6' Christmas trees with mine in 10 minutes.
