I've narrowed down my tractor selection to the L3130 and would like to buy a backhoe as part of the package. Kubota offers two choices (BL4690B, BH90) but are there other brands/models that I should consider? Which Kubota backhoe (small vs large) would you recommend for the L3130? What has been L3130 user's experience with backhoes on this tractor? Thanks.

Looks like you're about at the same point I am in the shopping process. Speaking only as a determined shopper, here's what I've been able to figure out so far.

Outfits like Woods, Bush Hog, Bradco, etc. make good products that are very comparable to the Kubota backhoes.

The large Kubota hoe, the BH90, is a new model and compares very favorably vs. the competition. You might save a little going with one of the non-factory models, but on the other hand, your Kubota dealer will stand behind his products installed on your tractor. Many Kub dealers also sell one of the other brands, and may work a deal for you.

The BH90 is a lot more hoe than the 4690 for about $1000 more. If you expect a lot of heavy use (i.e. commercial), the BH90 would get the nod. If you are more in the amateur category like me, the 4690 should be adequate. Your 3130 should handle either one or one of the other brands with no problems.

I hope maybe some of this helps. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif Good luck.

I generally recommend the largest backhoe that the manufacturer recommends for the tractor, so in this case the BH90. Not necessarily for the added digging power, although that's always nice, but for the extra reach. I have a 7 1/2 foot Woods backhoe and wish it were a bit longer at times, but that's all that can be put on a "little" B2910.

My only caution with the larger hoe is that it's transport height is quite a bit higher, so make sure you can get it to maneuver through wherever necessary. Of course, you could always lower it a bit if necessary, but this could be awkward if you need to do it often.

Has anyone operated a bh90 on a L3130 yet? My local dealer has one but the hoe is still in the crate. I was 90% sold as soon as I saw the solid mounting plates. Looks rock solid! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

I have a bradco 509 on my L3830 and love it! Digging depth max 9'8"/digging force-bucketycylinder 5676#. Reach from swing post 12'9". I have seen the bradco 408 on the L3130 which has 8'1" digging depth. If you call Bradco they can reccomend the right hoe for your tractor. Bradco is an industrial type Back hoe. I'm sure you will love the L3130 with which ever backhoe that you decide on. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Go with the bigger hoe. I put a Woods 9000 on my L3130. The 509 would be good as well. The Bradco 511 and Woods 1012 would be oversized IMO.

MSRP Kubota BH90 Backhoe $7350.00
MSRP BT2901 12" Bucket $562.00
Tractor must be equipped with LA723 FEL
ROPS must be model SFL-F343 however a $225 credit is available if your tractor is equipped with std ROPS and you must purchase the correct ROPS.
These prices do not reflect freight or A&H.

I'd love to put a backhoe on my L3010 but at $7000+, you really must have serious commercial applications.
Are used BHs available?
I really do not know that much about them but could sure use one.
My budget would be about $3000(assuming the wife does not find out...!)

Buster57 -- I have a Woods 7500 w/ sub-frame on my L3010, but had no commercial applications in mind when making the purchase. I use mine to harvest stone, lift heavy boulders into place on the 200 y/o stone walls I'm repairing, clear drainage ditches of silt, "fluff" the garden since my wife hates rototillers, and occasionally just for skill building I use it to pick up dog poo in the yard. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I was really unable to justify the expense based on need. What I finally realized is that the tractor is my land yacht -- a major recreational outlet that comes in incredibly useful at times...especially when harvesting firewood.

Are used backhoes available? Yes, but you've got to be patient. I looked for 18 months before finding a year old barely used Woods for $4500. It seems that the availability of used BHs is inversely related to the degree of desperation you demonstrate! /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Isn't a BH 90 a bit large for a 3130 ???

Just my opinion, I would say it is too much. I would look for a bh80 or the older bh 7500. You could look at the Kubota site and see what is on a L3240 which is the newer version of the 3130. If I under stand the numbers on backhoes the 90 is a 9' and the 7500 is 7.5' the Kubota bh77 is 7.7' reach or digging depth.

Isn't a BH 90 a bit large for a 3130 ???

Welcome to TBN. Maybe you didn't notice, but this discussion was ten years ago, when the L3130 was a current model. At that time, the BH90 was the only factory subframe backhoe available and it could be added to an L3130. The BH90 was a heavy backhoe, but the L3130 chassis was large enough to handle it, mostly because the subframe design puts most of the loading and stresses from the backhoe to the rear stabilizers and the FEL and not so much to the tractor itself. The tractor does provide hydraulic power for the hoe and carries it around, but when you're using the hoe, the tractor wheels are generally off the ground or just barely touching.

The subframe installation is considerably more robust than the 3 point type backhoes, particularly on a compact type tractor.

I don't think the BH90 is still available new from Kubota, but there are some excellent aftermarket models, if you're looking. My favorite is Bradco, but Woods and some others also have good ones.

If you do want to keep the whole outfit Kubota and go with a factory backhoe, the BH92 replaced the BH90 but is fully compatible with the Grand L30 series of tractors. I can say that the L3430 is not much bigger than the L3130 and mine handles the BH90 quite well, but either way you go, the most important thing is to get the subframe unless you are doing the lightest of backhow work.
