The following is from The Dallas Morning News today:

"A construction worker died Tuesday afternoon in Irving after his head was stuck between a support beam and the bucket of a backhoe, police said. The 31-year-old Grand Prairie man, whose name was withheld until relatives were notified, died at the scene. The accident occurred about 1:40 p.m. on Pioneer Drive near Stewart Drive where the crew was installing a sewer line, said Irving police Officer David Tull. The man was loading small pipes onto the machine when one hit a lever or button, causing the bucket to move."

Bird,

That's sad to hear, but not to difficult to invision. I changed my wardrobe on the tractor for the same reason. Several times getting off the tractor I have caught my shirt tail over the gear lever. Never changed position of the lever and I rationalized "no big deal something else also has to happen like stepping on the HST".

But one time catching my shirt tail on the backhoe swing lever while getting off the right hand side of the hoe and my wardrobe was permenantly altered. I also started dropping the RPM's way down before getting out of the seat. Probably should also disengage the Hoe Hydraulics, but I don't.
