Hello. My wife and I just bought 12 acres to play with and see what we could grow. I'm getting back to farming after being out of it for more than 30 years. I'm trying to do this the old fashioned way - on a budget. My first purchase was a 196x Ford 4400 with a front end loader. Seems to work ok, mostly, but does show its age. I'll be looking for lots of insights on keeping it running without putting my local dealer's kids through dental school. My second purchase was a 20 year old Bush Hog with a stuck pto shaft. Finally pulled it off the mower and let my auto mechanic heat it and put it on a ram - but it now works well. Third was a 1950 vintage Ferguson 2 bottom plow, cleaned up and painted. We'll see if I remember how to plow. Lots to do.

Starting out slow with just a big garden but plans for pasture poultry, turkeys, eggs, fruit trees, bees. Maybe a steer or two but don't know if my wife would allow the slaughter. What is SCA?

SCA is the Society for Creative Anachronisms. I was into black and silver smiting, metal casting. Dressing up in customs and attending feasts was fun too back then.

A friend and I attended the Pennsic War back in maybe 83. The event has grown to over 10K people.
