The proper term would be "bushings" You can make them yourself from DOM tubing.

Look in Mcmaster Carr under shaft collars.

I was wondering if I could make these bushings out of 1/2" plate, I have read on some other bucket posts that there not for anti wear, but for clearence of dipper stick

Making them out of plate should be fine. It doesn't matter if the outside is round. You can bore the holes after you weld on the extra thickness.

I would say that bushings do reduce wear by spreading out the load even in the part that moves with the pin. In the part where the pin rotates, extra width helps a lot to retain grease. Of course part of their function can be to provide clearance.

If you are interested in DOM here is a link. The ID may need to be reamed a little, especially after welding, to achieve a clearance fit.

after finding out how much dom tubing was, $80 shipped for a 9" piece, I decided to make the out of 1/2" plate, used the plasma with the circle attachment cut 8 of them, welded them to the mounting brackets One side only for now. tomorrow I will drill them out with the hougen

With those tools why are you messing with us? LOL

The 10-12" 1.5" Id x 1.75" OD DOM at OnlineMetals is $27.10 shipped UPS ground. Adding a second piece only added $1 to the shipping cost.

That's what friends are for.

That and feeding the animals while you're on vacation.

Here are pics of my modified bucket with new ears. Also included are pics of the raw ears which were cut with a water saw. My spacers were simply 3/16" or 1/4" steel plate. I am not near my bucket presently to check. I could have went thicker, but I was more concerned with keeping the ear outside width as narrow as possible since the bucket itself was only 9 inches wide.

I actually had 3 sets of ears cut for future use. One pair is targeted at a frost tooth.

ok finished the bushings, 1/2 plate 1 1/4 hole. pins. well i found a 6 foot rod with threads at each end cut off 2 pieces from the middle, wire wheeled the front one fits perfect, the rear one is making contact before the hole ( maybe the bar had a slight bend ? )
what material is used for pins, cold rolled, hot rolled?

I dont have my kubota pins there upstate wont have then on hand till the 17th. think i am going to wait till then before welding brackets to the bucket

The bushings came out nice!

When you weld the ears onto the bucket, weld a little at a time and stick the pins in the holes often to check alignment.

In a big metro area, you should be able to find a steel disti who will sell
DOM. Expect about a buck an inch for 1.000 ID.

I just bought some annular cutters, like the Hougen Rotabroach, so
my drilling big holes is getting easier. For pin pivot holes I do not drill
at all.....I cut a big hole with the plasma, then weld in DOM tubing.
