I recently bought a B8200 HST, a bit on the rough side. Transmission does not seem to take much load before it ceases motion. I drained the transmission oil and found some iron filings on the screen. I also got a 7mm ball bearing. Guess it doesn't look good. appreciate some insight !

A free parts manual from here might be handy... Kubotabooks.com

Blocked screens can certainly stop a tractor. But iron filings don't automatically mean major problems. And the ball bearing could just have been dropped by someone on the assembly line. I'd just clean the metal screen, replace the spin-on filter and the oil, and cross my fingers. I had a similary sluggish tranny. Cleaning the screens made a world of difference.

Are you in low range and it stops? Does the trans slip or stall the engine?

No, it does not stall the engine. It just stops moving like when confronted with a a bit more steep ground. i.e. it slips. This can happen in low range too.

Love you guys sense of humour. Or should I spell that another way!

About the clutch- might be slipping a bit. I've not had HST before, so don't know what the norm is. If I try and shift speed range with higher revs, it makes a noise i.e. cogs trying to mesh or something. Drop revs down to idle and it goes through clean and quick.

Will it pull a dead weight.

Any strange smells when it doesn't move?

I would want to know where the ball bearing came from! Would try to find an assembly diagram and parts list. Might be a real clue in that.

Then again, I don't even know what a B8200 looks like.

How's the weather in New Zealand? Every time I do a search on my geneology (Scottish lowlanders), it appears most of them went to Tasmania.
