In doing the 300 hour service I drained the fluid from all 4 drainplugs, removed the two filters, and cleaned the strainer. The manual states the system capacity is 3.83 gals. So I put in 3.5 gals to start and checked the dipstick, thinking I'd top it up afterwards. It reads well over the maximum level. Will the fluid level even out over time? Does it take some time for the fluid to work its way through the system? Should I drain some to get the level where it needs to be on the dipstick? Does it damage the machine to run it with the level higher than it should be? Thanks for comments and help. Bill

That may be a "complete system" volume. You never really change "all" your oil as some remains in the cylinders. Drain a bit off till it reads OK, cycle your loader a few times and see where it is. If you did not start your tractor prior to checking you need to account for the filter volume as well. You could try starting it and run for a few seconds to move the oil around and then check it. If still too high drain some off. Two options here for you.

Did you drive it a bit after you filled it and recheck it? It will go down some when you drive it a little ways.

What he said ......

Keep in mind - if you haven't even started it up yet, those two filters may be empty ... that's probably at least 1/2 to 3/4 of a quart right there ....

Thanks, gentlemen. I've run it a bit and the level went down some (yes, probably filled up the two filters and the strainer). Still way high. I'll drain some out and get it to the right dipstick level and keep an eye on it. Question: does it damage a transmission, the pump or the lines to have it too high or is there some wiggle room in there? Thanks, men, truly.

I just did the 600 hour service on my B7800 yesterday. If the fluid level checks 1/16" over the high mark I'll leave it alone as this has never given me a problem. If it is 1/8" or more over the high mark I'll bleed a little off. I don't think its that critical as I have never had my B7800 leak any fluids or blow any fluids. I keep it parked on a clean concrete garage floor. If it leaked I would be pretty upset. I bought it new in the summer of 2007.
