B7800 mid-PTO

As a soon-to-buy guy, this question is whether there is any reason to spend the little bit more money to get a B7800 with a mid-PTO if one will never use a MMM?

Everthing I currently plan to do with the tractor will be accomplished with FEL, backhoe, bush hog, box scraper, and post hole auger. But, as one who claims ignorance on the subject, I would value comments from those who know regarding the unimagined joys of the mid-PTO.

I am aware of the benefits of the MMM, but any fine mowing will be done with a smaller machine anyway, so assume that is not an issue. Thanks.

aloha, I don't know where you live, but if you are going to use a front mounted snowblower you need a mid PTO. I use the mid PTO more than I use the rear PTO. Von

I would ask how much more now, vs how much to add it later if needed...and then try to decide.

Never used the mid pto on my B2910 yet and don't forsee the need for it later either, at this point.

Now if I did not have the smaller BX for mowing, I would probably have a MMM on the larger tractor in place of the RFM I started with...

Still...it is nice knowing the mid pto is there, just in case... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif But I probably don't [and won't] need it.

Snowblower -- I had not thought of that. But, after doing some work on the mainland through the spring, this tractor will be heading for Hawaii where I hope snow will not be an issue. (Sorry about that to those of you in cold climates.)

You could also use a front mount sweeper broom if you have a mid pto.

I believe that the folding ROPS and mid-PTO used to come as a package deal on the B7800. I don't know what the current purchase options are.

Regardless, I typically think of "resale" value when I purchase items. The small additional fee now may make a difference on how easily the tractor sells in the future (yes I know...you probably don't ever INTEND to sell the tractor, but you never know...).

Hawaii may not require a snow blower, but grass grows pretty good over there. You may want a mid-mower some day in the future.

As pointed out in another post, you need to see what the price difference of the option as an "initial purchase" item versus an "add-on" later on.

THE FUTURE??? Keep in mind that the mid-PTO "kit" may be discontinued in the future, forcing you to purchase the mid-PTO option "part-by-part", which could get very costly.

On my B7800, I needed a folding ROPS to be able to use a Kubota Backhoe. The mid-PTO came as a package with the folding ROPS.

The folding ROPS gives you the head clearance needed to operate the backhoe. I haven't found a use for the mid-PTO yet, but it is there if I need it.
