B7610 Exhaust Modification

The 7610 has an annoying “design feature.” The exhaust exits right on the mower deck attachment handle and front brush guard. It gets everything, including your hands sooty. Before photo attached.

I solved the problem with a $5.00 piece of pipe from the local muffler shop. I had them take a 1 ¾” piece of exhaust pipe and bend it 90 degrees. After cutting it down, it looked like this.

The only thing close enough to the pipe to get in the way is the lower mounting tab for the left side cover. Since the 1 ¾” pipe needed to be notched anyway in order to fit the 1 3/8 stock muffler, I put the notch on top. This prevents the “slip on” from touching the tab. Photo attached.

The final product.

It’s too cold to give it a bath right now. However, I expect that once I clean the soot off it will stay clean. The only “trade off” I can see here is the slightly increased possibility of the muffler catching on something.

Looks good. I have been thinking about doing the same thing to my tractor, if I can ever remember to measure the size before I go to Autozone.
